It’s national Bourbon Day!
Bourbon is a classic drink that has grown much in popularity in recent decades. To celebrate this day, we wanted to bring you a unique bourbon recipe and a short history of this very American drink.
Bourbon and Coke
Ingredients
· Syrup
- 1/4 cup Coca-Cola
- 1/4 cup sugar
· Cocktail
- 2 oz. Maker’s 46 or other bourbon
- 1/4 oz. Coca-Cola syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Lemon twist, to garnish
Preparation
- For the syrup:
To make the syrup, bring the Coke to a simmer in a very small saucepan. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Allow to cool, then refrigerate until ready to use.
- For the cocktail:
To make the cocktail, combine bourbon, syrup, and bitters in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously, then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon twist and serve.
A short history of Bourbon:
Bourbon whiskey is a type of American whiskey. It is a barrel-aged distilled spirit made primarily from corn. Bourbon sold in the United States must be produced in America with the primary point of origin being from the state of Kentucky. It is made from at least 51% corn and stored in a new container of charred oak. Distilling was most likely brought to present-day Kentucky in the late 18th century by Scots.
